A Functional Threshold Power Ramp Test is a simple method used to loosely define FTP. Although no blood is drawn, and lactate levels are not recorded, the results of this test are highly correlated with the results of an LT test.
The test is performed on a stationary bike. After warm-up, the participant maintains a consistent pedaling cadence as resistance is gradually increased. The proctor measures speed, cadence, power, and heart rate. A printout of the test results is included.
